Everyone should be able to find a show.
We want Lancaster Live Music to be usable by as many people as possible, however they read, navigate, or listen. This page explains our goal, what we know isn't perfect yet, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.
Our commitment
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA as a goal for the bulletin. That means working toward good color contrast, text that scales when you zoom, keyboard-friendly navigation, meaningful headings, and labels on form fields. We treat this as ongoing work, not a box we tick once.
What we try to get right
- Readable type. Generous sizes and contrast, and a layout that reflows when you zoom in.
- Keyboard navigation. The main listings, filters, and links are reachable without a mouse.
- Plain structure. Real headings and lists so screen readers can move through the page.
- Labelled forms. The newsletter field has a proper label, even where it's visually hidden.
Known limitations
We want to be honest about where we fall short today:
- The interactive map. The Map view relies on a third-party mapping library that is hard to use with a screen reader and keyboard alone. If the map doesn't work for you, every show is also available in the Day, Week, Month, By Venue, and By Band views, which are plain text and fully usable without the map.
- Third-party pages. Listings link out to venue calendars and ticket sites we don't control, and their accessibility varies.
Improving the map experience and offering a fully text-based alternative for everything on it is on our list.
How to report a problem
If any part of the bulletin is hard or impossible to use, please tell us — it genuinely helps. Email hello@lanclive.com with the page, what you were trying to do, and the device, browser, or assistive technology you were using. We'll do our best to fix it and, where we can't right away, to get you the information another way.
This statement is a starting point for our soft launch and will be updated as the site improves.
